Numbers in English are easy!

If you can count to 20, you have all the tools you need to count much higher!

After this we count by saying each column (行) seperately. It follows this patter:

_______ hundred and _______ty-__________.

For example: 

164 = 100 + 60 + 4

One hundred and sixty-four

514 = 500 + 14

Five hundred and fourteen

Don't forget 1 ~ 19 are special numbers!

Let's get bigger!

This pattern holds true (成り立つ) even for bigger numbers! 

Now we have to pay attention (注意する) to the commas.

58, 900

We break each part and say it individually like before. Do you remember the pattern?

_______ hundred and _______ty-__________.

(zero hundred and) fifty-eight, nine hundred (and zeroty-zero.)

But something's missing. 

We have to say the commas. They tell us how big the number is. 

The first comma is 'thousand', then 'million', then 'billion' and so on. 

So let's try our example again. 

58, 900 = 50 + 8 thousand 900

(zero hundred and) fifty-eight thousand, nine hundred (and zeroty-zero.)

Let's try with another number.

609, 183, 500 = 600 + 9 million, 100 + 80 + 3 thousand, 500. 

six hundred and (zero-ty) nine million, one hundred and eighty-three thousand, five hundred (and zeroty-zero).

Cleanly, that's: 

six hundred and nine million, one hundred and eighty-three thousand, five hundred.

That's all there is to it!
