English Reading Practice #6 - Movies To Stand The Test Of Time
Hello again and, as always, thanks as always for reading our blog.
What does it mean to say something “stands the test of time”?
Well, it means that SOMETHING IS REALLY GOOD, EVEN MANY YEARS LATER.
So for example, when you want to say an older book or movie is really good, even many years later, you say, "It stands the test of time."
In my opinion, these movies really stand the test of time.
- Back to the the future
- Indiana Jones
- Terminator
- Titanic
- And you can use the opposite also:
"Recently, I watched ET again. I think it doesn’t really stand the test of time."
I think in Japanese, you have a few different ways to say, don't you?
不朽の名作 a masterpiece that never fades
時代を超えて愛されている it's been loved over time
世代を超えて愛されている it's been love through generations
いつ見てもいい it's always good whenever I watch it.
So how about you? What movies in your opinion do (or don’t) stand the test of time?
DON'T FORGET
This month, we plan to have movie night at my school.

This movie is from 1991 and I think Point Break stands the test of time.
